Day 4: Exploring Talkeetna: Hiking the LakesSet out to explore the scenic trails near Talkeetna alongside an expert private guide on this half-day adventure. Just a short drive from town, the Talkeetna Lakes area offers a beautiful introduction to Alaska's wilderness. Along the trails, learn about the region's lakes, flora, and wildlife while watching for loons and kingfishers gliding across the water. Moose and even bears are occasionally spotted in these wild surroundings. Walk beneath towering old-growth trees alive with songbirds, discover seasonal wildflowers and mushrooms, and break along the way to enjoy a locally sourced baked snack. Following your scenic hike, you will be returned to your accommodations in Talkeetna.
Rooted in history and surrounded by surreal landscapes, a day at leisure in Talkeetna offers a relaxed glimpse of classic Alaska. Day 5: From Talkeetna to Denali with Byers Lake Nature WalkTravel north from Talkeetna to Denali along one of Alaska's most scenic drives, where sweeping landscapes unfold at every turn. En route, stop at Denali State Park for a walk around beautiful Byers Lake. With a private naturalist guide leading the way, take in views of the surrounding mountains while learning about the region's plant life and fauna. Visit a historic log cabin once home to an early pioneering couple who endured Alaska's long winters in this remote setting and hear stories of their hardships and triumphs. Spend more time riding on the trail than any other Denali area off-road adventure tour. You may learn how to make fireweed tea, leave with a blueberry smile, or even chat about survival. Periodic stops are made for photography and wildlife sightings. The ATV features three seats side by side each other.
Day 7: Goldstar Rail Service from Denali to AnchorageToday you will independently transfer between your hotel and Denali train station (or vice versa). While you are welcome to use a taxi service or ride-share app, please note that many hotels and lodges offer complimentary shuttle services.
